All you have to do is go somewhere else where you can get on the Internet, like a library, or at someone else's house and go to www.us.playstation.com and click on Playstation 3, then click on System Updates on the site and you can download it to a USB drive. You need a jump drive that can hold at least 512 MB of data, because it is a large file to download. After downloading the file, you then turn your PS3 on, put in the USB jump drive, and go to System Updates. Then click on update via USB device and it will start updating your system, and then you can play your PS2 games. Also, you need to plug in your wireless controller to the PS3 while it is updating. Also, If this is your first time updating the system, there will be some other additions to the system as well.

Also, don't forget to create an internal memory card for your PS3 by using the memory card adapter which is sold separatley. If you don't then you won't be able to save your progress on your PS3 if you are playing a PS2 game and you won't be able to load your progress from your PS2 games.

either download the update on a pc from playstation.com and save it to a disc or jump drive or memory stick and put it into the ps3, or go to update in the cross media bar interface
