The definition is fairly ambiguous, because it's defined as meeting the common standards of decency and appropriate behavior as decided by the majority of the community. Since there is no one single community anymore like there used to be in the old days in small towns, and we're now a mixture of different cultures, "normal" is no longer easily defined. It tends to be mostly arbitrary as voted on by interested community groups or legislators.

Normal has changed a lot since the Leave It To Beaver era. Just about everyone and their family is hinky or kinky in one way or another. Look at teachers! They used to be pretty normal. Now they make porn videos for students and have babies with them. Religious leaders are no longer considered normal. I would like to get a hold of some US census data and see what is middle of the road these days. Great question!!

There's no such thing, really, but if you had to define it, it would be someone without extremes. Someone with a job, a house, a car, a spouse, 2.3 kids and a pet or two. Purple hair is becoming more normal, but is not there yet.

You're normal if you have decent hygiene and if you pay your bills. You can be eccentric and still be functional, and that's abnormal sometimes but not crazy. Insanity is when you can't function on your own... and you smell. Really bad. So that's obviously the opposite of "normal".

Society doesn't have a definition of normal, but it's pretty easy to spot abnormal when you see it. For example: people who eat their pets would not be normal, but is it normal to enjoy thunderstorms? Is it normal to be pro-choice or pro-life?

Whatever the majority of the "people who make up stuff" say it is. I, myself, believe there is no set standard for "normal" and I try not to use it when referring to people.
thats just me.
