Sounds like a loose electrical connection to me, as opposed to a faulty heating element.

If so, a loose connection and lint *could* cause a fire.

I implore you to have a serviceman inspect your dryer.
Since "intermittent" problems are the hardest to repair and diagnose, explain to the repairman how often the dryer fails.
Also tell him if you notice *anything* unusual occurring when it does.

Good luck

It could be the heating element in the dryer. It is often cheaper to get a new one.

Have a repair man come out and give you an estimate.

electric heating elements are going bad. you can usually order new ones or can get a repairman to do it and put them in.
