I have always thought that 'music is memories.' The music you hear gives you some kind of visceral connection to things which have happened to you in your life. Certain songs may remind you of lovers, dates you have been on, maybe a birthday or Christmas. They may remind you of your youth or other eras of your life. When people say 'this music is from MY era' what they really mean is that that music reminds them of being young or having fun.
Music is also a big reflector of mood. Feeling happy? You will go for something poppy. Feeling down? Moody or downtempo music. Feeling energetic? Air guitar anthems. Sociable? Dance anthems. Loved up? Romantic ballads

I am personally attracted to the actual lyrics and how the song makes me feel. I am allured by the soothing melodies of "the fray", the beautiful voice of Christina Aguilara and the soul and feeling poured all over Regina Spektor's music.

music is nothin but wavelength .
our body also has its own natural frequency. it changes with our mood. so when our body frequency matches with that of music, we feel like listening to that. thatz y our taste of music changes with our mood.
