June 2006: Move into an apartment with a girl I've been paired up with her by the apt. complex on individual leases in a two bed, two bath apt. I find out that my roommate is my age (23), going to be a HS teacher and also is a lesbian w/ a significant other. I thought that a HS teacher would be respectful of me and the fact that I'd have enough on my plate working 20 hours a week and working on my masters.
August 2006: My roommate's girlfriend, comes to college & is living in the dorm (as required by the univ. as an underclassman). The gf is given a copy of the key to our apt and moves the majority of her things in here. I think ok, so she's going to be over a lot and there isn't a lot of space in the dorm. At this point my roommate didn't indicate that her girlfriend would be LIVING here. So from Aug until Dec the gf lives with us. I insist in Oct that the electric bill is split 3 ways.
March 2007: I woke up one morning to find a guy I barely know in my home. The girls let him stay.

The night previous I had come homeand not expected anyone in the apt because my roommate had been staying at her girlfriend's apt all the time since Jan. I asked him questions. Found out that they let him stay and neither stayed with him over night. My roommate never called me to ask if it was ok. I had left my door open that night when I had slept.
So I went to the apt complex management. Told them what happened. And they decided to move my roommate instead of kicking her out since she blatantly violated lease. She moved out as of tonight. But refused to pay her half of the electricity for March.
I wrote her a letter a few days ago say that I expected payment on Feb. electric and Mar. electric by middle of Mar. Made a copy of the Feb bill, and a copy of the check which I have already paid for Feb. The Mar. bill comes in a week. I gave a copy of all this to the apt complex too. And they said that they would help me get my money if she refused to pay.
Did I over react?

Also, there have been 4 rapes in the immediate area in the past 6-8 months. And when I say immediate, I mean my apt complex and the one across the street.

Oh I've already gotten her moved to a different apartment, but she's making it a big deal about the electricity and she is saying that I made a big deal out of something that was so little. Also, that my reaction was over the top.

No. Thats very good what you did. Thats disrespectful and dangerous. That guy could have been a pervert or worse. Its very important to settle do's and don'ts with roomates from the very start. It pays to always do the right thing. and you did the right thing.

Wow..
I guess just talk to your roommate (the one the apt. paired you with not the other one) and tell her that you can't live like that.
I mean you have to break it to her someway that her gf has got to go, and the guy, because what if they kept inviting people ? The problem gets worse, and worse, till the apt. explodes!!
Or, you could take the easy way out with some *sweet revenge*. Invite your friends to stay over, sleep over, and live over. See how she feels that someone eles' friends are populating the place.
Or you charge the guy a bill too.
It's a hotel:
Every new person that comes in Invited by your roommate, you charge HER, or THEY pay you, and you don't pay a single penny on bills.
It's that simple ;)

it seems like she's trying to take advantage of you! If your name and her name is the only tenant leasing the apartment, shouldn't no one else live there. She should have at least asked your opinion before letting her girlfriend move in. (well) you say you don't care so YEAH! rent should be split in 3.
Waking up with a strange dude in your room. I would have totally f**king lost it. Immediatly get locks on your room door. Sit down with her and tell her whats disrespectful. You did'nt over react you under reated. He would have immediatly gotten kicked out. Her and her girlfriend would have gotten cursed the f**k out.

You have all the right to feel that way. You also live there! and they need to consider that. Try talking to them, they should also help if there living there (with the bills at least). Let them know you dont like it, but dont make it seem like your the evil one, just try to have the adult mature conversation. Oh yeah, of course you didnt over react.

No way, you stood up for yourself. It's exactly what I would have done. Before reading the additional details I wrote this long thing about what I would do if I were you and it ending up being exactly what you had done! Thank goodness she's gone!
