7 answers

6r² - 7r - 5 = 0

The middle term is - 7r

find the sum of the middle term

multiply the first term 6 times the last term 5 equals 30 and factor

Factors of 30 =

1 x 30
2 x 15
3 x 10 . . .use these factors
5 x 6

+ 3 and - 10 satisfy the sum of the middle term

Insert + 3r and - 10r into the equation

6r² - 7r - 5 = 0

6r² + 3r - 10r - 5 = 0

3r(2r + 1) - 5(2r + 1) = 0

(3r - 5)(2r + 1)

- - - - - - - - - - - -s-

see i think u need to understand basics

6r^2-7r-5=0,this is called a quadratic equation

this type of equations can be solved as following:

fisrst multiply co-efficinets first term and last term dat is 6 and 5

so the ans is 30
now see first and last term dat is 6r^2 and -5

now if any one of the signs of term is (-) we have to factorize 30 in such a way dat we can get -7 by substraction

so the factors needed are 10 and 3 as 10*3=30 and 3-10= -7

so

6r^2 -10r +3r -5 =0 [u should notice dat the original form of equa. is maintained as3 - 10= -7]

now take out common

2r(3r-5)+1(3r-5)=0

so (2r+1) (3r-5)=0

so 2r+1=0 or 3r-5=0 as any one of them should be 0

so r= -1/2 or r=5/3

6r^2 - 7r - 5 = 0

Factorise this,

(3r-5)(2r+1) = 0

Solve this

3r-5=0 or 2r+1=0

Therefore,

r= 5/3 or -0.5

(3r - 5)(2r + 1)

you have

6r^2 - 7r - 5
3r.............-5
2r..............1

(Note that -5 * 1 = -5 and 3r * 2r = 6r^2)

If you multiply 3r by 1 and 2r by -5 you'll get:

3r - 10r = -7r

So, since you multiply 3r by 1, put:

(3r - 5)

And the other as:

(2r + 1)

So the final result is:

(3r - 5)(2r + 1)

If you want to find the 2 posibble values for r:

3r - 5 = 0
r = 5/3

or

2r + 1 = 0
r = -1/2

using the quadratic formula:

r=(7+-sqrt(49-4(6)(-5)))/2(6)
r=(7+-sqrt(49+120))/12
r=(7+13)/12 and r=(7-13)/12
r=20/12 and r=-6/12
r=5/3 and r=-1/2
