I live in Texas, and here you have to go thru an act of congress to get a box of cold pills because soooo many people make methamphetamine out of it. I have two questions:

1. Is it easier to buy cold pills outside of middle America, or is the speed epidemic national?

2. If it is that hard to buy cold pills everywhere, where do the speed freaks get their stuff to make speed?

In the 10 minutes I spent standing in line at the pharmacy at Wal-Mart waiting to get my cold pills, I started wondering how tweekers get around all the new regulations and keep making just as much speed as ever before.

My mother in law visits Mexico every year. You can get just about anything down there. Many of our 'prescription' drugs are over the counter there and less than half the price. She just picked up some 'stop smoking' drug that fits that description. Perhaps Mexico's cold medication sales have increased recently. Personally I find it irritating that I have to talk to a pharmacist to get decent cold medication that actually works, it feels like we're taking a step backwards in our ability to self medicate due to idiots like this.

I thought that here in the U.S. a person was innocent until proved guilty. I go to the pharmacy to buy Claritin for my allergies. I must show ID, sign my name, address, date of purchase and amount of tablets in the package that I purchase. Do you think that the people who make meth are here legally? Do you think that they care about laws in the U.S.? Do you think that they go to Wal-mart, Walgreen's or Rite-Aid, buy a few cold pills and then take them and magically turn them into meth? Tweekers do not do this. They have people, who have people in other countries that provide them with the necessary supplies.

Most of the people making meth have never bought their pseudoephedrine at local pharmacies, in the first place. They tend to buy it from Mexico in bulk. This law will have little effect on decreasing the amount meth being produced.
The law requiring you to show an id for pseudoephedrine is a federal law.
In Oregon, you have to have a prescription to get pseudoephedrine products, like Sudafed, Claritain D, etc
