I've heard in addition to the school requirements for admission, the NCAA probably has additional rules too. You should check their website.

Speaking as an Education Counselor,
to attend college in the US you must:
be a High School Graduate and be accepted.
- some schools will accept a GED
- some schools accept foreign student that pass a TOEFL
The acceptance process means applying and typically paying a non-refundable application fee.

Speaking as a former NCAA coach.
- anyone can "walk on" a team to play football if they are an undergraduate student at the school.

So to answer your question about the "requirement" to play football...
you must be a student.
- some schools will stipulate a "student in good standing": meaning that your Grade Point Average must be over 2.0, you are not in debt to the school, nor in trouble for any reason.

You saw an answer talking about DIV I, II, and III.
These are the divisions within the college systems 1, 2, and 3.
These divisions are allocated funding for their programs.

Div 1 schools get big money to recruit great players and pay them a scholarship to go to school.

Div 3 schools have small budgets and might only be able to present "enticements" - like promises to bigger schools, room and board, or maybe a campus job.

The competition at a DIV I school is fierce. The one I walked on to saw hundreds of walk ons and there are three separate cuts. You have to be an excellent to stay.

The competition decreases until you get down to the DIV III schools. Which are a great place to start your football career but not always the best place to be scouted for the pros.

Good luck with your choice.

To play college football, you must:

1. Be good enough to earn a scholarship offer (Divisions l and II), or successfully walk on (Divisions l. ll. lll).

2. Be able to gain acceptance at the school of your choice.

3. Fulfill the NCAA requirements for eligibility (see link below)

I wish you good luck!

each college/university have seperate requirements. Speak with your guidance counselor at school and they shoul dbe able to help you out. Or, if you prefer the independent route, you can look up the school online and contact an advisor. Good luck.
