never heard of piers except by the ocean...you sure he didn't mean Pierce? I think Pierce Anthony sounds pretty good actually...if you both can't agree on that one....then I'd sugest taking a vote on a first name of another relative from generations past....

Piers? no way... tell him that if he cant compromise with you on a name you can live with then he dont have 2 sign the birth certificate.. you can do that you know! Even naming him Marcus Anthony people will still call him and refer to him as Marc Anthony.
How about:
Jayden Anthony
Jason Anthony
Michael Anthony
Taylor Anthony
Greyson Anthony
Nathan Anthony

I am not a big fan. My husband did the same thing to me when I was pregnant. Pierce is better but Piers, I see teasing. Mark Anthony is much better- by the time the child id old enough for school Marc Anthony pop singer will not be popular at all.

Piers Anthony? Does your husband read Science Fiction/Fantasy books? That's the name of a writer. I like your choice better. I'm afraid if he were named Piers he'd get teased a lot. How about Brian Anthony? Hopefully you'll have a girl and this won't be a problem.

Piers is different, but like you, I don't care for it. Marcus Anthony is nice and by the time he starts school, will Marc Anthony still be a popular pop singer?

Well why don't you compromise and go with Anthony Piers? Marcus Anthony is horrible and does remind people of the singer and you are right, yelling at Piers, no. Switch it around.

My boyfriend's name is Mark Antony. There are a lot of Mark and Marc and Marcus Antony and Anthonys out there...
And I have to say I agree with what you're saying about the name Piers.
It depends what you're after in a name. If you want something unique, then neither of the suggested names seem to be any good. Your husband's suggestion, as you said, is naming him after a writer, so far from original. Marcus Anthony, and any variation of it (basically anything that sounds like the famous Roman Marc Antony, whom the singer was probably even named after), are also popular and unoriginal.
However either of these names would suit if you are set on naming your son after someone of fame.
Personally I think it a little unfair if you expect your husband to give up his suggestion of a name in exchange for yours because then it is only he who has to make the compromise.
Why not leave those two names and continue looking at other names until you find something you both like?
There are plenty of names out there.
In my personal opinion, a rarer/more unique name would make your child feel that much more special about themselves than to be named after somebody or have a really common name.
There is nothing more annoying at school than having the teacher add the first letter of your last name to tell you apart from the other "you" in the room...
Except maybe having immature classmates looking up famous people online and finding one with your name.

If you are grown up enough to have a child, then you are grown up enough to pick whatever name the two of you choose. If you don't like the middle name Anthony, don't use it. Problem one solved.
The name you choose now will affect your child for the rest of his life. Can you really name a kid Piers and think he won't be teased? You and your husband need to each write down your top 15 or 20 names. Then see which names appear on both lists. Those are the names you choose from. Take the top 2 and choose one for the first name and the other for the middle name. Remember, there is nothing wrong with traditional names. You want your son to be remembered for who he is and what he does, not because he has a funny name.

How about Marcus Piers Anthony? It's okay to have 2 middle names, and I think that would be a good compromise. If you really don't like the name Piers then I definitely wouldn't use it as a first name. It's really unfair for your husband to pick a name that you don't like.
If your husband complains about it - just tell him he has a choice: you'll let him choose the first name - on the condition that the baby gets your last name. Hopefully this will be enough to get him to change his mind. lol ;-)

This sounds alot like my Husband and I. With our 2nd child, Who is a girl, We argued. I wanted to name her Grace, Because her Brother is Gavin, But my hubby hated it. He wanted to name her Josphine. I said No Way! So we decided that you pick one name I will pick the other, We will sit down and put them together and see how they sound. Well since you guys have already picked a middle name, if it is a boy. I think you two should both get a notepad go in seperate rooms and write down all the names you like that sound good with Anthony. Then meet back up, and compare. Who knows you two could have the same name on your papers and not even know! It would save some trouble and that way you two can have a say in the name. By the way we picked Samantha Leigh for our Daughter's Name. It isn't hard to come up with a solution, just calmly tell your hubby that you don't think Piers is a name that your child well be happy with, and go from there. But I like Jacob Anthony personally. Good Luck.
