Hi, I am a nurse. The foetus is unable to regulate its body temperature & is dependent on the mother. Thus, it is recommended for the mothers to stay away from hot suana, steam bath or hot tubs etc. Keeping yourself hydrated is equally important & that is why it is recommended that mothers drink a minimum of 2 litres liquid a day.

While your pregnant your body is like an incubator for the baby. It keeps it at a certain temperature. Kind of like when a chicken sits on it's layed eggs. It's to keep the baby chick inside warm... So if you get in a hot tub it could over heat the baby and cause miscarriage..

Yes. But if you have already it isn't anything to worry about. According to my doctor (I did just about everything those first two weeks not knowing I was pregnant), it actually takes a LOT to raise your body temp by enough to harm the baby. So, don't go IN hottubs now...but if you have and didn't feel sick just from the excessive heat, everying will be fine. For your core body temp to go up high enough, you'd start to feel naseus (that's about the hardest word to spell!) and unwell.

The reason you shouldn't use hot tubs during pregnancy is because women who use hot tubs during pregnancy are two times more likely to suffer miscarriage! Yes, hot tubs cause your body to sweat heavily which can over heat your body... in turn that will cause trauma to your unborn baby.

The risks are so high it's simply not worth it!

Yes, its because it raises your core body temperature to a level not cohesive with the growing baby.

because of the elevation in body temp... baby is 1-2 degrees hotter than you are b/c of the proximity to your core, which is where the term 'core temperature' comes into play.... ie... stay in too long, and baby overheats.

because the hot water makes your body temperature rise, and your blood temperature goes up. the baby is, in effect, boiling inside your belly, like a chicken in a pot. take hot baths if you want, but stay out of hot tubs where the warm temperature is consistently really high.

From what they told me when I was pregnant, they termed it, "It will cook the fetus."

I'm not too fond of heat, so it didn't bother me too much.
And I know those words make it extremely vivid...but they work.
