No. Parking is a b*tch even if you're REALLY good. Besides people drive very aggressively. My step-mom lives in the suburbs and works in the city, and she NEVER drives. We drove once, and parked way on the other side of the city and took the subway up to where we were going. I would say have her take the train. Even if this were YOU going, I'd say take the train. it's just not worth the trouble. If the train isn't a good option, you could drop her off. but even experienced drivers struggle with NYC. I'm near 18, and my dad only wants to let me go DRIVE there with his supervision. he says the driving isn't the trouble so much as the parking. But you should really just have her take the train. Especially because Rent is supposed to be great!

Does she normally drive in the city? How responsible is she? How far away from the city are you? I've driven in NYC and it ain't pretty. I would say no. I know you might hear a lot of people who say "you gotta let go one day" But I have a 17 year old who wants to drive to the city to go shopping with friends. I told her no. I want to be with her when she drives until she learns to handle the traffic. We too live in the suburbs and she is not used to the freeway drag racing maniacs. It's not my daughter I'm worried about, She a good kid. It's all the other idiots and I'm not sure how she would react to them. You should go with her. You don't have to go to the play with her. You can grab dinner and a movie until the play is done. You'll just be her taxi for the evening

You type more like a teenager, but anyway probably not. City traffic is horrible especially for only a "decent" driver. Plus she'd probably be driving friends, which causes a whole nother group of distractions to cause an accident.
Why not let her drive to the nearest metro station and take the train in instead? It'll cost out about the same when you factor in gas and parking.

That would require her driving at night and if I recall New York state doesn't allow under age 18 to drive at night, without a licensed adult in the car. I could be wrong It's been about 5 years since I was in New York. I don't think she should make the trip alone anyway...not to NYC at her age.

Well, goodness... how long is the drive. Where do you live? She will have to deal with parking, city traffic and a lot of other things she doesn't see in "suburbia."

Traffic in the city is a far cry from traffic in "suburbia". I'd say no. Have her take the train, as long as she's not going to be by herself.

That is a choice that you have to make for yourself. None of us pay for the car insurance that you carry on the car that she would be driving. Remember who the parent is. Webster has a very good definition for the word PARENT.

Her driving skills may be good, but if she gets stopped by the police and they discover that she does not have a licence, you will lose your vehicle.
If she has a licence and you trust her, then let her go.

No. Drive her. I wouldn't trust my 17 year old with driving who just barely had her license.

Who is she going with? If she is going with someone you know and trust then I say let her. Plus, rent is a great play!
