The more name calling and stereotyping I see the more I'm leaning toward's the Independant party. Calling Liberals cowards and accusing them of not caring about what happens to our country is ludicrous and so is calling conservative's heartless war-mongers.

There is no reason why liberals and conservatives should be in complete agreement. That's never going to happen anyway. There are supposed to be conflicting views in each party. The best thing white Democrats ever did for themselves was when they stopped listening to race-baiters like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. It's good to have conflict when it comes to who should pay more taxes. Some wealthy people do need to pay more taxes. Otherwise, the poor simply live in misery at the expense of the rich. But, you can't really have a debate when someone like Jesse Jackson is calling you a racist because you don't want to pay more in taxes to lift poor blacks in Harlem out of poverty. Everyone knows why there are poor people on earth and why there are rich people. Most people make a decision about whether or not they want to be rich or poor. Most people choose to work and get ahead, but all of them don't. There will always be disagreements between Democrats and Republicans because of that. Your main complaint is that there has been so much partisanship because of the war in Iraq. Do you really believe that? The Democrats in Congress voted for the war. The Democrats took control of Congress in 2006. There should be no U.S. troops in Iraq right now if what you're saying is true. There were leftist anti-war protestors that became very upset because of the war in Iraq, but that doesn't change the fact that the Democrats in Congress have always supported the war in Iraq.

I think getting rid of the Bush administration would be a good start. And, if the conservatives would finally admit the truth to the fact that their white house is corrupt and completely lacks morality, truth and integrity. Then I'd be willing to listen to whatever issues they have provided they are presented in a logical, honest and a way that has integrity. Second, we should make our system of government a parlamentary system so we have more than two choices between tweedle dumb and tweedle dumber.

Lori B. the Green party is a real party. We're winning local elections all over the country.

More power to you if you can make it work. The problem with the Independent Party is that it's got no serious representation or clout. Until that changes, you're stuck with Democrats/Republicans, Liberals/Conservatives.

It's nice to think that one can hover above the fray and take a non-partisan approach - in theory. My problem with Independents and third party candidates is that most of the ones I've spoken with are all talk. They're very idealistic and committed to their political purity, but they don't make anything happen and their candidates get less than 5% of the vote.

I don't believe in sentiment over substance or in empty, symbolic gestures. Politics is a dirty game by nature. Right now I know which side is doing the most damage to this country, and I think it's worse to remain silent than it is to fight against people with bad ideas.

One thing I think that a lot of people don't fully understand is that for the people who engage in it politics is a full contact sport.

Also, real differences do exist between the worldviews of the two parties. While most citizens would like the two parties to agree and do what's in the best interest of the country, people on the left and right often have very different and mutually incompatible views as to what that is.

Unless you come up with a true national consensus on most critical political issues, it won't happen.

I wish there was a way to make them stop but on this website it is impossible. However, I know many Conservatives and Liberals who get along and have intelligent conversations. It all depends on how understanding each side can be and whether or not they want to get along. With both sides just calling each other names we get no where and no one sees the other sides point of view. If only there was a way that we could discuss our sides equally.

I think intelligent people do not formulate their opinions based on what they see here. If so, I suggest you get your information elsewhere.

Very few people on this site are interested in true political dialogue. And dialogue is the only way stuff gets done.

But our differences are what makes America great. It is only when we carry those differences to the extreme, where other Americans become the enemy, that we must rethink our agendas.

Because I don't really want any part of an America which is incapable of allowing freedom of thought to flourish.

It would take a miracle. Most people in this country are middle of the road. There are too many people who can't think for themselves, so they call themselves liberals, conservatives, democrats, or republicans. They are trying to be a part of something they dont completely understand

Good for you! The problem has been that the middle, which is made up of both liberals and conservatives, have allowed the extremist, from both sides, to divide us. O'Reilly and O'Donnell are perfect examples of how the media contributes to the division. Both of them will go out of their way to rage against the extremist on the other side. And they'll make their audience believe that those extremist represent the positions of everyone on that side. We need to grow up. We need to get out and meet our neighbors. We need to listen to our neighbors. We need to stop considering our neighbors to be the enemy.

I would love a third party (a real one, not The Green Party!) I think it would take a viable third party before things would ever become civil again.

Then again, what would happen to The Daily Show with John Stewart if that happened? And what about Limbaugh? I'm not paying for unemployment for those folks. And I'm not paying unemployment for ousted congressmen and women, either.

We need a third party! A third party that does away with me having to pay for people I don't want to, so I can give more money to people I want to give money to. Wait, that's not a third party...that's Conservatives!
