Why doesn't the addition of an acid-base indicator affect the pH of the test solution?

my idea is that b/c acid-base indicator is a buffer in which its main purpose is to regulate pH. Is that correct???

how much acid and base did you add? If you add enough of it then the test or unknown solution should be or have a buffer.
