No one is in danger the only worst thing i can see happening if someone over heard your number and started prank calling you.

Well lets see.

If you give it to a marketing company they can sell it to other companies to call you up all the time to sell you stuff.

lots of other stuff but cant think about it right now

Its ok if its to a friend or to a bank or mobile company if they need it for authentication.

Depends on who you give it to. If you are not under suspicion of a crime and your phone is not being tapped - what's the hurt?
