The domain is really any value for x that would make the output, y, make sense.

After you have found this out, look at all of the possible values for y and that will be your range.

The range is y < - 2

Do you mean -2^x-3x+1=y?
If you mean -2^x-3x+1=y
Domain=R
Because you can choose all reals for x.
Range;
If x->inf
y->-inf
and if x->-inf
y->inf
Hence, Range=R, too.
