Yeah, shoes are one of those "do I cross the line for sake of my pocketbook" items, aren't they?

I buy them new, except every once in while from a friend's garage sale. But I still spray them out with disinfectant and then rub the inside with tea tree oil and let that dry before I wear them, just in case. Little phobic about that.

When I was roller skating I did buy used skates, but since you replace the liners entirely it didn't feel like too big a deal after the disinfectant, didn't know about tea tree oil back then.

I will state that absolutely, under no circumstances, will I ever purchase used undergarments or socks. Just can't do it. Yet you see these things at the thrift stores...yech...

I will only buy not so new from eBay, IF the seller sends me close up pictures of the soles of the shoes. I buy new 99.9 percent of the time. There is just something really nasty about someone else's foot juice forever ingrained in shoes!
They have some terrible examples of used shoes on ebaydotcom. Sometimes they actually say, "some soiling due to toe imprints on inside of shoe, might (MIGHT) need some light cleaning...." talk about vomit-time!!

I also buy them new, when I was a kid I used to wear second hand shoes, then I got athletes foot, and that was caused by wearing someone Else's shoes.

New is the only way to go! There are too many people in this world who are afraid of water for me to use someone else's shoes. I don't care how much you wash them. If it is a friend that you know and trust, it may be different. But then I would only borrow them if it was a dire necessity. Hope this helps.

I prefer second hand shoes. Because of the discount. And because of the interesting people that shop in second hand stores. I'm a people watcher.

Both.
I love thrift store shopping. And mall shopping. And outlet shopping. And internet shopping. And catalogue shopping. Did I forget something? Grocery shopping, too. Anyhow, I buy new shoes too, but if I can find nice ones that are second hand, I can afford MORE shoes!!!!!

I buy mine new also. But I go to places like Payless, Ross, or Rack Room Shoes. They aren't as expensive and they last just as long.
