My best friend is school was named Cherie, pronounced Sherry. She never had much problem with it and I personally like the spelling Cherie much better.
I gotta tell you that I'm in my early 40's and this is the only Cherie that I have ever known. Which means it's not real common. I like it.
If you are pronouncing it Cherry though, I'd go with Cherri.

Prime Minister of England, Tony Blair's wife is called Cherie. No-one ever pronounces it properly. I like it though!

Cherie is really pretty; just remember that some people will pronounce it "Cherry", if you don't mind that, it is nice.

It's cute, it's pronounced "sherry" right? The only problem is, when you tell people that your name is Cherie, they'll think Sherry and if they try to look you up in a phonebook or write you a letter, then they'll use Sherry. Otherwise, it's cute. I like it.

If you are French and living in France maybe but no, it's too too feminine for my taste at least.
