You just take the whole song and get royalty for it..is it not stealing eg DJ Sammy & Yanou ft. Do sung 'heaven' which was a Bryan Adams song.....? Is this 'remake' illegal?

They have to get the legal rights to remake the song. They have to ask whom wrote it and whomever you have to ask to re-make the song.
*And some songs should be said no to, but the artists don't*

If a band records a "remake" they have to first get permission from the person or persons who wrote the song, and then those how wrote it will get royalties for every copy sold.

Actually some are - it is a commonly known fact that Bob Dylan has prevented remakes of certain songs, as well as prohibiting their public performance because his contract gives him that right.

yes it's legal all royalties go to the writer...which in this case included Bryan Adams

as long as you state who wrote the cover song, you can cover a song.

for example: if i wanted to cover stairway to heaven by led zeppelin in my new cd, i would have to listen robert plant, jimmy page and the zeppelin gang in the credits. if i didn't, i would lose probably everything i own.

as long as mentioned that it WAS NOT my song. Although you need permission from the record company first prior to doing this.
