I'm in my twenties, 5'9 and have a 38D chest... and it is a pain; back pains, sleeping is awkward, they are sore a lot, I'm always self conscious, people stare, I find it hard to exercise, and so on... But I'm terrified of having surgery of any sort, especially cosmetic surgery that is not vitally important... my question is, are the benefits of the surgery worth going through something so intrusive + painful? Or are there alternatives to the surgery? I'm a little bit overweight but not enough to be considered "overweight"; if I lose a great deal of weight, is it likely that a large portion of that weight will be lost from my chest? or does that weight tend to stick?

I'm confused, obviously, because I think life would be easier with a reduction, but I am impressed with those that endure the surgery because it seems like such a painful and difficult thing to go through...
is it a very invasive surgery?
really any information would be greatly appreciated!

How could you say it is not vitally important, when we are talking about your back health?

I had severe back neck and shoulder pain, and immediately after surgery it was GONE!

Life WILL be much better after the reduction. Perkier boobs and NO back pain, you will love it!

Depending on how much fatty tissue versus dense tissue is in your breasts will depend on if you lose weight in the boobs or not. I've tried working out and lost nothing in my breasts.

Talk with your doctor, or find a Plastic Surgeon that is covered under your insurance plan. The insurance company can pay anywhere from 50-100% of the cost (mine paid all $8,000 of it!).

http://www.breasthealthonline.com has a forum strictly for breast reduction, as well as a FAQ forum where you can read up on the various incisions and after surgery care. There is also a support forum where you can post up and talk about your fears and your journey.

If the size of your boobs is causing you pain and anxiety then the operation would be very much worthwhile. You are not in the category of women who want larger breasts because they just dont like their own. You have a genuine complaint and reason for wanting surgery. If you are concerned that by losing a few kilos you may reduce the size of your breast then why not put the operation on hold for a couple of months till you lose the weight ands see what happens.
I knew a girl at school who had breast reduction surgery as she had enormous breasts which caused her pain. She never regreted having the surgery once it was done.

I have several friends who have had the surgery and are extremely happy with it. I'm considering it myself (20 years old, 5'2 and a 32DD) for the same reasons you are. I'm just worried about whether or not my insurance will cover the cost.

As far as losing weight to try to lose breast weight, it may work and it may not. I could lose 15 pounds and still have the breasts I do, but I have friends who have lost 15 pounds and 3 or 4 of those pounds came from their boobs, so it's hard to say.

All my friends who have had it done say that it is completely worth it. They experienced some pain afterwards, obviously, but they were back to their regular lives fairly quickly.

I completely sympathize, though. Going under the knife can be scary. It's nowhere near as dangerous as implants, though.

One of my friends had a breast reduction and she says it was one of the smartest things she ever did. First you should lose some weight to see how much you will lose in your chest. You only want to do this once, and if you are at your best weight you will be happiest with your results.. The surgery is done by a plastic surgeon and yes, it is uncomfortable for several days after, but never having a back ache again makes it well worth the bit of discomfort! Good luck!

This is something you really need to discuss with a doctor.... I personally would try to lose a little weight first as it most likely would come from your bust first, but if that does not work you may want to get a reduction.. sure you would be in pain for a couple weeks but its better than having a life time of pain.. besides you would be doing it for your health not for your looks!!...

Some of the girls at work were just talking about this a week ago. The girl that had it done is thrilled and my hubby's boss's sister had it done and is thrilled also. Yes it is painful at first but well worth it from the people I have talked to. If you are overweight you may lose some of it in your breasts so that is a possibility. My daughter is chesty also at 38DD and we have told her that if she feels she ever wants the surgery we are behind her 100%.

I would think long and hard about it before doing it because I've heard some tragic horror stories about "bad" plastic surgeons and if Insurance doesn't cover it, price becomes an issue. Don't sacrifice your health for the lowest bidder. Some things can't be undone. This link has some really good information to read up on it beforehand.

yes, this is very important! I am filing for disability cuz of severe scoliosis, I'm in my late years, do it now! The pain wont last and the pain you have right now will no longer be there.

very painful not worth is and if you lost weight you would loose some of your breast tissue as it's mostly fat. do a goodle search and you'll see the pain, brusing and stories of those who have done it and even get a free consult they will show you pictures and tell you what to expect too.
