You friend was very lucky to get a mated pair to breed in a 55. First-off it's really hard to sex an oscar,so the odds of buying a single fish of the opposite sex is a real long shot.(By the way,do you know the sex of the fish that you have?) If you are luck enough to get a pair that won't kill one-another then you will have to embark on a long conditioning program,(pristine water, live foods, frequent water changes,a 75 gallon tank, lots of work.). You also will need to study fry rearing practices, but that's a long way down the road. Breeding Oscars "on demand" is a lot harder that waiting for a serendipitous mating. Good luck with your studies.-----PeeTee
