Science has improved the quality of life for humans, now science wants humans to improve the quality of the planet. Nature made us and nature can destroy us. There is an asteriod that might hit us in about 25 years. Why should I listen to science when it has improved my life by helping destroy it via it's discoveries.

Why not?

You already know that nature can and will kill on global scales. It's struck many times in the past with ice ages, asteroids, volcanoes the size of Wyoming, and if your religious, floods (which Noah survived using science!).

We have nothing to lose if we attempt to use science to save the world.

The real scientific fact is that we can't prevent global warming. If there were no humans the earth would still be warming -- that is the conclusion of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Climate change is a natural process that's been going on for millions of years. If not, why did previous ice ages retreat?

The best we can hope to do is reduce the human contribution to warming which is very small relative to the total. We cannot stop global warming. Maybe we can slow it but even that is hotly debated.

It is important to distinguish the politically motivated junk-science we hear in the media and from people like Al Gore from legitimate science.

I agree that we should work to prevent global warming. The problem is that the world is too fragmented. We need to become more unified of things like global warming will kill us all. There are some things that a single person can't fix. Global warming is something that a single country can't even fix.

This is the classic problem that Nash’s equilibrium problems. It’s a game that works like this. Eight players are in play, for twenty rounds.
Try to fix problem = negative 1 point because of the money
Don’t try to fix the problem = positive 1 point because you don’t have to spend the money
Everyone gets 1/4 a point for everyone that works at fixing the problem, because of the environment.
Everyone gets negative 1/2 a point for everyone that doesn’t try to fix the problem, because of the damage to the environment.

The scored are added up at every round, and if the total score is negative, then everyone dies.

No one wants to be the only one to spend money to fix the problem because it’s not enough to help. But if nothing is done everyone dies.

The wording of your question confused me a little, but I'm going to take a stab at an answer anyhow. You should listen to science because regardless of what ill scientific discoveries have in the past been used for, science does (for the most part) know what it's talking about.

We are slaves to nature and slaves to ourselves.

Why were there Ice Ages? We are due for another soon.

Science is just an ever-changing tool that humans created, used to help us find our place in the universe.

Science is Knowing. Everything has potential to be good and evil. And my lantern illuminating my trail of thought is failing... so I must return home to fill the lantern.

You must remember that science didn't just create or if you will invent things that are only used to destroy. It serves mankind in a way of which you might not even be aware of.

first of all we all can die hitting a cycle or in our sleep..we dont need astroids and global warming to kill us.. our forefathers didnt killed by these weired things..my grandfather died with loose motions...
but yes..we need to take steps to stop global warming.. because its getting too warm in summer these years..
but we cant do it or we dont want to..otherwise we should be planting trees or playing in a playground rather than sitting on computer and typing these kind of philosiphical words with no result..
and by the way there is no science its nature who helps us..
from where science came..from brains..who made brains...NATURE

It's called "total evolutionary planetary annihilation" and there is no stopping it. You can't run from it, you can't hide from it and you certainly can't prevent it. Enjoy every day as we have them!
