Absolutely. When the good of many is endangered by the well being of one, then the well being of one can be sacrificed. Sad sick truth that human nature makes this necessary.

From a logical point of view, it would only be permissible for one human to torture another is the net outcome would be a net positive experience.
Since the person being tortured is undergoing extreme discomfort or pain, the benefit would have to more than compensate. It would be a very rare situation. It is not a reliable way to obtain accurate information. If persuaded through positive means, people are usually willing to divulge more useful information willingly.
Any appeal to Justice or fairness to justify torture is misplaced as vengeance. The human need to hurt people that hurt others should be actively suppressed.

Yes, but not moral. If one gets tortured for information that would hurt or protect others, then the torture would be ethically right, just not morally. Morally, no one being should hurt another, but with ethics, one could present the argument that what ever is for the greater good and therefore the lesser of two evils is premissible and therefore good. I wish it would stop, hopefully one day very soon the evil feelings in the world will take a day off, and we'll all forget how to be that way.

You know, the only reason Americans are having this "discussion" is because Our Glorious Leader started torturing people, and we Americans have rushed to find a "justification" for it.
No case of the so-called "ticking time bomb" scenario has ever occurred, and looking at, say, Amnesty International reports on torture shows that torture is generally inflicted to terrify the populace, or political movements. Not saving lives.
If there were ever any case of "justified torture", let the torturer publicly acknowledge it, submit to the judgment of an American jury, and convince them to find for acquittal under the necessity defense.

Yes. I think the punishment should fit the crime. An eye for an eye. If someone deliberately tortured innocent victims then he deserves to be tortured too, not just imprisoned or killed. There are fates worse than death. Anyone who is deliberately cruel to an innocent person deserves to have their cruelty turned back on them!
Maybe it's the vigilante in me talking but I have a strong sense of justice and the legal system often lets evil people away with murder, literally. (If you can pay for a good enough lawyer, you can brutally kill your wife & then go work on your golf swing without doing any jailtime)...
If anyone ever hurt my family or friends, I'd go medieval on his a$$!

I suppose in theory if the torment of one were to relinquish the torment of many, perhaps torture would be justifiable. However, who is worthy to torture another? Would the act of torture be justly punished by torture? I think this question is a double edged sword, difficult to answer. Seldom in life is something of this nature a black and white decision.

...NO!
That is morally WRONG!!!
What ever that person did to you or to others,
does not give you the right to torture her!!!
P.S. Punishment and torture are NOT the same thing!!!

Torture is merely entertainment for a twisted mind - it is abhorrent under any circumstances.
