A Ph.D. isn't about money and a fast lifestyle, but research. So yes, my Ph.D. has served me well in academia, and I'm happy with it. But no, I don't have a family, a large home, a country club membership, or a sports car. If I wanted those things, I wouldn't have gone for a Ph.D.

Hahaha. I don't know PhDs with any of those, besides maybe the family, but that's not a consequence of the PhD. You don't spend 10 years in college to get rich. You spend 10 years in college because you love what you do.

I think it depends on the career or major, not the Phd. You could probably get a Ph d in PE and it wouldn't be enough.
