I would say the main reason in that, in the USA, the president is directly elected by the public, and the general pubic tends to be socially conservative. In most of the other countries you listed, a woman was not directly elected to the most powerful position in that country. In New Zealand, Britain, Germany , there is a parliamentary system, where people do not vote directly for prime minister; the prime minister is the leader of whicever party has the most seats in parliament. In the case of Argentina, Isabel Peron completed her husband's term of office after he died, and she was not elected herself. In the case of Ireland, the office of President is directly elected, and is held by a woman, but this office is largely honorary, and the main position of political power is the Taoiseach (leader of the majority party in parliament). Several other countries also have an honorary president. There are other countries, like the USA, where the public directly elects someone to a position of genuine political power, but in all of these countries it is extremely rare for it to be a women. Parliamentary systems (where the leader is not directly elected by the public) seem to give a better chance
for women to achieve political power.

Great Britain has had Queens forever.
Women in the US have only been allowed to vote since 1920.
Finland got their right to vote in 1906.
Chile has a female president but ranks 14th of 18 in female political leaders. I think their president was a fluke not a statement.
It has taken time for women to gain all rights including the right to be president. Women did not work out of the home until really the 60s & 70s. Most women were homemakers & did not consider a female president. Times have changed in a short period of time & women will continue to gain power here.

You know what's worse than never having a woman president? Voting for a woman simply because of gender. Or based on race, for that matter. I would gladly vote for a woman if she were a viable candidate. So far that option has not been presented to the voters. You question can be asked to the GOP and the DNC. They determine the nominations. I hope people don't vote for the next president based on gender or race, but on political platform.

Quite honestly - We haven't had many women run, yet. Not too many are qualified enough for the position. NOT because they don't have the same experience, but because women have to prove themselves times ten to a man's qualifications.
"Ginger Rogers did everything Fred Astaire did, only she did it backwards and in high heels."
PS - My other answer was going to be...Because no woman is stupid enough to want that job!! :)

It's the macho male thing in America. Don't you think?
No, Someday there will surely be a Woman president in America, if it last long enough. Hillary Clinton, just may be the next President. Boy is she going to do some squirming when she gets in office, if she does.
