OK, so here is how it goes the morning of the next president's inaugeration. At 10:00am, the President pardons the Vice President for any and all crimes that he may have commited. He then immediately resigns. At 11:00am, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court swears in the Vice President. He immediately pardons the President who resigned an hour ago. Then they go to the swearing-in of the new President at noon.

So Bush pardons Cheney, then steps down. Then Cheney pardons Bush. Then the next President is sworn in.

For those of you who think this is ridiculous, bear in mind that there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to prevent this. Any Pres/VP pair could do it.

But would they?

Kevin S: You are wrong. President Ford pardoned Nixon despite Nixon never being brought up on charges or convicted of anything. You can issue a blanket pardon that covers any crimes, even those that are currently unknown.

For those who say the current Pres and VP have not commited any crimes, you may be right. You also may be wrong. But a pardon would prevent the incoming President and Congress from spending years investigating them.

Also, Kevin, I'm 45 years old and I remember Presidents all the way back to Johnson, and some vague recollection of Kennedy.

Cut it out Chredon !!!!

What an impertinent question !!

On the other hand you have presented us with an imminent and dangerous threat to our homeland security !

Cutting to the chase .. ..

if any pair of such american characters would dare to have the chutzpah to do so .....

I believe they would be a pair of Republicans ...
.
either the current occupants or some of their fellow future compadres ..

they do seem to be the party of the arrogant , sneering, smirking .. i -can-do-no-wrong-....
stay -the-course....
believe-everything-I-tell-you ...
-ican-do-anything-I-darn-well- want-to-....
and-you-can't-do-a-thing-about- it...
--ha-ha-ha.

however.... i would not put it past a pair of similar positioned Democrats to also do the same ....sometime in the future

it seems our politics doesn't only produce strange bedfellows but also similar ones too !!!

at that level,.... as the saying goes ....
... .. absolute power corrupts ...

and maybe you fogot it ...

but our president .. sorry I meant our "WAR" President ( the name he gave himself .. after the " mission accomplished " speech ? ) ..
oh no .. durrrrnnnnnnit ..
I meant the DECIDER ..
or has he given himself some other title that I missed .. so hard to keep up ..

anyways one reason we, as in america, as in the president , do NOT abide by the GENEVA CONVENTION is so that our President and Vice President and the runsawayfailed and the can't prounce-my first-name uncle tom powell and all the other american govt employees and the generals and the marines who rape and kill little girls and kill their whole families in cold blood
can not be tried for WAR CRIMES

so .. in a way .. Chredon

IT HAS ALREADY HAPPENED

how sad .........

but nonethless i am going to PARDON you for having the audacity to ask such
an either you are with us or you are .............. question.......

and I hope for your ( and my ) sake we never see this happen

You can't pardon someone for crimes for which they have not been convicted. The Democrats have some political capital, and I sincerely doubt they would want to waste it trying to prosecute leaders who have less than two years remaining on their term.

If, for some reason, they were convicted of crimes, they would cease to be in power. As such, they could not pardon anyone.

As such, your scenario is rendered moot. So relax, vote support the causes you support, and recognize that Democracy will live on. As a teen, it may seem like Bush has been the only president ever, but you will have to deal with much worse in your lifetime, believe me.

It could definitely occur however not with Pres. Bush and V. Pres Cheney. They do not need pardoning.
Only liberals do things needing pardons.

it's a little bit terrifying that the system could let those two get away with everything!

and to those who say they haven't committed crimes, i can only shake my head and mention the slaughter of millions of innocents and the complete destruction of any promise of democracy with two stolen elections and the utter dishonesty they've displayed to the people.

Shoosh! That is too horrible to think of.

But they would never do that if they wanted to continue to make money after their terms were up in public speaking events. Although I can't imagine Bush being invited to publicly speak to large crowds...
