Yes I believe it is because she is still young and should be playing the roles in other movies for her age.
...and No because she is an actress and if she and her parents agree, plus the girl she is playing the role as is her age, then it is okay. I guess.

The people grousing about this roll have not seen anything to do with the movie, and are freaking about a 14 year old(?) playing a "graphic sexual scene"...
The ironic part is that there is no nudity, no rape shown (it is all implied). SHE is proud of the role. Her MOTHER read the script, and was on the set every day. Her family approved, etc. It is also an R rated(?) film, and they haven't been charged with Child Pornography...
Don't you hate it when someone jumps to conclusions ... especially where threats or threatening behaviour follows. Every person against the film and blasting Miss Fanning, from the little old lady, to the Catholic Church, all admit to not seeing the film, checking the script, etc...

Dakota stated on the view that the scene was rather vague as it is shown in a shadow from behind a curtain.
I think it is fully up to Dakota whether she takes more serious roles or not. I mean she is 13 years old, and 13 year olds know a lot in today's day and age, not to mention the overwhelming ammount of maturity she posesses for her age.
For Dakota it seems to me, it is just annother role for her to play, annother character she will immerse herself in. She seems pretty keen on choosing dramatic pieces to work on up until this point, she definitley does not star in flakey movies.
I think she is ready for it, and can handle it.

She is getting older and the parts that she will be taking as her life progresses are going to become more and more adult orientated. Children are raped (unfortunately) everyday and it is a fact of life.
It is a movie. Not real life.

Maybe sadly, we won't know for a long time. I would try to steer clear of that role if she was my daughter.
