That idea is based, at least in part, on the story of Barney and Betty Hill as told in the book, "The Interrupted Journey". That is the first Alien abduction story which all others have imitated ever since.

But Zeta Reticuli is a G type star, very similar to the Sun, so it is at least plausible that there is an Earth like planet there. Actually it is 2 G type stars about 1/10 light year apart. If intelligent life did arise there, the lure of another similar star so close would have been a powerful force to make them want to develop interstellar space flight. We would have to go over 4 light years to the nearest star, and that is just ridiculously far with any technology we are likely to develop in the next 100 years or so.

zeta reticuli star system is a binary star system, with 2 suns. The planet that they came from is called planet Serpo, But they are not the grey's. They are our friends and them are called the Eben's. There was a exchange program in which some military people went to planet Serpo. For what was to be 10 years but stay a little longer.
