I realize there are a variety of opinions, but we are struggling to pick a hotel. We want newer rooms, nicely appointed, with sitting areas so we can visit each other (4 sets of couples going). One wants a view of the strip, another insists on a casino in the hotel, all agree it must be in the center of it all.

Thanks for your opinions!

The price, as we are flying from Florida, should be between $150 - $200 a night.

Check out the Fountain View rooms at Paris

They would be perfect for the amenities you're looking for and in your price range "generally" .Paris is a very nice four star hotel with a great casino, located center strip and the rooms have a sitting area.

If you go Sunday through Thursday the rate will usually be in the $150 range. Friday & Saturday will be much higher.

Avoid special events, large conventions and weekends for the best rates.

If I can be of help feel free to send me an e-mail through YA

We go to LV 2-3 times a year for 2 weeks or more at a time and have for over 20 years.

If you have to go on a weekend you're going to have a tough time finding a hotel like you want in your price range. Unless you went with a hotel like Bill's Gamblin Hall(ex Barbary Coast) but they remodeled the rooms within the past 2 years(they were very nice even before) Bill's has as good a location as any hotel in LV it sits dead center on the strip, at the intersection of LV Blvd S & Flamingo.

Another possibility would be to stay off the strip. The Orleans is a little over one mile West of the strip on Tropicana. The rooms are very nice & over size, they have a sitting area and this hotel IMHO has rooms that have the most incredible panoramic view of the strip. >for a room with a view. when you check in ask for a room on the 15th-19th floor, room # 02-44(even) a room such as 1524-1630-1720 etc would have an awesome view of the strip. The Orleans also has a very-very nice casino, if you like low table minimums this is the place. The have a very good selection of restaurants, an 18 screen movie theater, 70 lane bowling alley, their own arena for shows and special events(this is where the LV Wranglers play their hockey games). They have one of the very best "moderate" price steakhouses in LV, the Prime Rib Loft. One of the very best buffets for great food and good value. This is one of my favorites and I recommend it all the time. I have never had anyone not really like this place.
http://www.orleanscasino.com >we were just there for nine nights in December, we spend a week or two at the Orleans every year and have since it opened.

I too have stayed at a different hotel nearly every time I go to Vegas. My favorites thus far are Mandalay Bay and the Venetian. The Venetian is an all suite hotel is pretty much in the center of it all on the strip with great views. You can also take a Gondola ride around the shops there if you like!

Since you are flying, the most cost effective would be to get a package deal. I have listed a couple of websites below that I have seen great deals on for Vegas. Sunday thru Thursday arrivals are the least expensive. I have also included the web address that you can check to see if a big convention is going on during the time you want to visit, if that is the case, prices will be higher also.

Also important, if celebrating anything like a birthday or anniversary, make sure to make it known when you check in, I have always been upgraded if the space is available!

I've stayed in Vegas quite a few times, and always in a different place. The nicest room I stayed in was at Mandalay Bay, but it is at the end of the strip. You can walk to or take the tram to other casino's. The nicest overall (minus the room itself) was the Bellagio. The casino and the lobby are to die for! This place is a real beauty, be sure to get a room with a view of the fountain. The best place for more of a party spot is a tie between the Hard Rock and the Palms. Neither one is right on the strip but they both are only a short cab ride to the strip. Both places are one huge party scene and a blast. The rooms are nice everywhere as long as you don't budget shop. The Bellagio offers a great view of the strip. One place I have never stayed but have been to numerous times is the Venetian. It is a very nice place as well, and I would not think twice about staying there.

Well I have stayed at three different hotels in Vegas; Circus Circus (north end of stirp), MGM (south end of strip), and Paris (Center). Now I only stay at the MGM. I absouletly love it there. Yes it is on the south end of the stirp but there is tons to do there such as Hooters, New York New York, Luxor, Excalibur. Plus it dosent' even really matter, there is a fast bus system for 5 bucks a day that runs constantly. MGM has big rooms with luxury. Request a room with a strip view and you won't be dissapointed. And why pay more than 100 bucks a night in Vegas?? MGM you can get from 89-129 if you book at the right times. MGM has nice pools, restauants, service, etc... You won't be dissappointed in this hotel. Now Circus Circus is a dump, just old and dirty, it is cheap though and it can be fun if you have kids, it was my favorite casino when I was a kid. Paris was nice, but the rooms aren't as big as the MGM and not as much to do.

The strip has tons to choose from. The touristy area has the Venetian, Bellagio, Wynn, Treasure Island, Mirage, MGM etc. This area is all about entertainment. If you get a room high up you will be able to see the strip from all of these and they all have a casino. The Mirages volcano makes for a cool view at night. To be completely honest any of the big name hotels are going to be comparable in the view that you get of the strip. Just figure out if you are going on a sophisticated relaxing trip or a drunken-falling-off-the-sidewalk trip and go from there. If I were to go I would stay at NY, NY. From there you can walk anywhere.

How much can you spend? If your going to splurge you can try the Wynn. Its VERY expensive but had one of the nicest hotel rooms I EVER (casino and non casino) stayed at. The beds were huge with comfortable pillows. Bathroom is huge with Plasma TV. etc.
Please note the hotel is VERY expensive and not for everyone. I never stayed but I heard Excalibur, MGM is nice. Stayed at Circus Circus, Luxor a while back. Circus Circus is great place for kids not adults, Luxor I hated the diagonal rooms.
