Ok, I got a ticket in Lexington, SC. The police officer said he saw me throw a ciggarett butt out the window of my car.. I got fined $540.00. I did not argue or cause problems with the police officer. Is $540.00, too high for a first offense for a cigarett butt littering charge.. Yes or no? and state. I will present your answers to the judge by printed copy. Then I will post the response.

Ask for the butt in question (the evidence) along with a DNA sample taken from the butt.

First of, the judge is not going to care what people on Yahoo Answers have to say about it. Although it is what I would consider a steep fine, this may have been brought about by fires caused previously by careless smokers such as yourself.
You really have no options other than to pay the fine.

You didn't argue is equal to you not denying it.

The cost of tickets for traffic violations are not based on a sliding scale fee. They are mandatory for anyone and everyone and the amount is determined by state and municipal law.

Consider yourself lucky for being notified in person. I knew someone who received a *letter* from the sherriff's office saying someone witnessed the butt being discarded, got their plate number, and reported them. Wow.

I have lived and worked in the Lexington area. Dude...you are better off just paying the fine or asking for community service.

Sorry, dawg, not knowing the law and the fines for breaking that law in particular, will not clear you from guilt or the fine. This really doesn't have to turn into a fight. Pay the fine, and use the ashtray in your car from now on. Seriously, just pay the fine, there are more important things to fight for.
