I didn't marry one, but was in a relationship with one for a few years. It is a horriable experience. You can never do family things becasue they can't be away from the booze long enough, you think some how you can make it "better" for them and you can't . You love them but they are unable to love back , all they love is the bottle in there hands. The person living with the drunk goes through alot. The best thing to do is to let them know you do love them and there is help out there if they want to change. You can't blame your self, you can't make them better. Hopefully your love one will get help. It is a long long long ROAD. Good Luck , call and go to a aa meeting for families dealing with it.

Now if you meet your guy or gal in a club or pub, shouldn't it
give you a clue when they drink enough to float a whale, and
then you have the gall to complain about being hitched to a drunk? Seems as though that person found the right mate for them. They can be the holiest S.O.B. for the rest of their lives and suffer endlessly, because that is the role they derive pleasure in!! Not to mention the glee they get out of nag nag nag!!! I've watched people like this for years, and if and when their mate dies the just death of cirrhosis of the liver,
heart disease, or any zillion other diseases, the poor long
suffering mate runs out and finds a person exactly like their
dearly departed!!
