Nothing is displayed, because without the card there is no way for your motherboard to talk to the circuitboards in your monitor.
If the RAM is bad in your computer, it will also give the same symptoms as a bad video card.

No, you have no way to connect your monitor, yes it would display it to the ports for the card but that is it, you cannot see anything as you cannot plug your monitor into anything.

Of course you can't, first, the computer on boot up will produce sounds. (The number of sounds depends on the actual motherboard itself, signifying the error type.)
And the computer will not go from the BIOS to DOS boot up.
