No problem with using your BIRTH NAME after you are married.

I was happy to shed my birth name. It was an unpronounceable German name. I traded it in for a nice common English name.

Everybody has the choice. Some MEN take their wives name especially if she has no brothers and the name would die off. So the husband takes her name and their children will carry on her family name.

When I was married, I used my maiden name.
I figured I already had a last name, why would I need another one? And it's not like I'm HIS property.

And when you keep your maiden name you don't have to go through the grief with name changing with Social Security, your drivers license, passport, banking accounts, etc.....

My wife changed her last name to mine on all papers including her passport and driver's license. But, when we are filing our tax returns we use her maiden name, because we are just to lazy to change her Social Security card.

My sister uses both names with a hyphen.

So, there are many ways of keeping your maiden name alive.

Many people do. It is perfectly fine. The only problem (and it won't really be a problem) you may run into is when you have children. If your children have your husband's last name, then just get used to the school calling and asking for Mrs. (your husband's name). If you don't find this annoying then it won't be a problem. It is very easy to say, "I am Mary Smith, but I am Jane Jackson's mother."

I can understand you wanting to keep your maiden name, but why don't you use your husbands name too? I mean, you can use a hyphen. For instance, if your name is Mary Smith and his last name is say Williams, you could use Mary Smith-Williams. I guess I'm old-fashioned because I think a wife should take her husband's name.

Some women do, especially if they own their own business and are widely known by their maiden name. What is the real question here?

I know of a few couples where the wife hangs on to her maiden name for whatever reason. It seems to break away from the traditional trend. I personally don't like my last name and would welcome a more trendy last name, like Smith- ha, ha, ha!

I do. I didn't change my last name either and just use Ms in front of my maiden name.

I don't, but you mention your legal name is your married name. If it's on your social security card & such, this could lead to confusion later on with paperwork. I suggest you pick a legal name, maiden name or not.
