When patients come into the pharmacy, I often steer them away from products like Midol. Midol contains caffeine, an ingredient that helps increase energy temporarily, but can cause rebound bloating, headaches, and fatigue.
If you are prone to cramps each month, try using Aleve (naproxen) before and during your period. Take this product with food. Aleve tends to work better than other over-the-counter products in relieving menstrual cramps and headaches. Try to avoid large amounts of caffeine (found in soda, coffee, chocolate, etc.) and foods high in salt (causes bloating).
Fatigue is a little bit harder to treat and may be related to temporary anemia, a condition that can result from a loss of blood. Try taking a multivitamin during the month that contains iron.
Summary:
1. Headaches / cramps / backaches: Aleve, avoid caffeine
2. Bloating: Avoid salty foods, try eating a banana (high in potassium)
3. Fatigue: Take a multivitamin with iron
4. NO MORE MIDOL!!
Hope this helps!

For the cramps and backache, you should try a heating pad or one of the stick on heat-strips that you can buy at the pharmacy. The heat will relax the muscles and help with the cramping. And there are no chemicals involved :)

Magnesium supplement will help, it is a natural muscle relaxer, and it is something you need anyway. Get that and take it, it will reduce your cramps, all the cramps are in muscles, and the magnesium will relax them. Also, try a heating pad on your belly when you can lay down, and those thermacare pads for your belly and back are awesome!
