No you don't need the remote to open the doors. All that remote is for are people that are too lazy to insert and turn a key in a lock.

i own a shop,and i don't think you need the remote for this one,this is one of the ones that you get in the car and turn the ignition switch to the on position,and it turns it off,to set it you can either turn the ignition to the accy position,and then it will chirp,and the you have so may seconds to exit the the car,or some of them you can arm them from unlocking or locking the door,you,ll have to test yours to see which one it is, i have one of those too,and i like it,it never fails to go off if needed,good luck i hope this helps.

Uhhh, Yeah, them would help. Or find a way to disable the alarm without disabling the vehicle.
