(As a side note, when adjusted for inflation domestically it would be 'Gone with the Wind' with $1,329,453,600 just here in the States.)

The answer you are looking for depends upon if you are wanting the raw numbers or if you going to account for the adjusted numbers. Movies in the 50's did not charge $9 a ticket so you can't do a straight compare.......

The titanic was the most selling movie in the box office I read it in Forbes record book 2007. The movie was also the most expensive movie to make which made it a good movie. The movies realness brought customers because it really happened. The movie made 1.8 billion dollars across the world and cost was 200 million dollars. The movie won the most Oscars and most Oscar nominations. Also won 4 golden globes.

Titanic. But Star Wars as the series made more money. The individual Star Wars movies didnt gross more than Titanic though.
