I was watching a program on technology on The Discovery Channel yesterday. They predicted that in the near future, we may be able to upload our brian content onto a computer cheating death. We will then donwload the content into a human made body. Do you think this will be possible? How long would it take to make it possible? Wouldn't the world become over populated with so many births and no deaths.

there was a star trek episode like this, where this oldie dies and uploads his memory/brain stuff onto data, and becomes him. it was an interesting idea.

They say anything is possible but at the moment there is no evidence that what you describe will ever be possible. It certainly seem unlikely to be done in the near future - how would you even start to go about uploading the content of your brain to a computer using current technology?

I wouldn't worry too much about it causing a population explosion for the time being.

I dont think this is possible. Even if its possible to escape diseases, ailments, sufferings its not possibles to evade death. If not for any other reasons, we are certain to die of tiredness. As we age, we grow weak. We dont see clearly. We dont stand upright. We give up eating, etc. Human science can correct functioning of one or two systems. But how is it possible to correct functioning of so many systems at the same time?
We dont cheat death. Still this world is over populated. That's the reason why poverty exists! Had there been no death, over-population itself would take role of DEATH.
Pray this never happens!

We would no longer be human, because humans are biological organisms, not man-made machines.

It might be possible, but who wants to live forever? If you believe in God, then where would the Soul be in all of this?

I prefer natural birth and death. We can never cheat death, because nature has a way of defeating science in the end. If there was no death, then there would be no life.

I don't think we are real close to this possiblity (yet). Most likely, the world will be completely over-populated by natural means before this happens. When/if it does happen, most likely only really rich people will be able to afford it.

Possible ... well, nearly anything is possible. But I don't think technology will ever be able to accomplish that. Ya, it looks good in SciFi movies, but let's face it, it's not going to happen.

Yes, if it could happen, we'd be overpopulated alright.

I truly hope this never happens. We will end up with no new ideas and thoughts. Besides, how many times do you think we have to experience Saddam and other dictators like him? I say, once is too many!
