So far we've seen no verifiable evidence of other sentient species. That said, I believe with some certainty that somewhere in our galaxy at some past, present, or future time, a sentient species did/does/will exist.
Why haven't we heard from them?
Perhaps they are not technologically advanced enough to be heard. They may be mastering stone knives right now, or experiencing their own Rennaisance.
Perhaps they are here right now. Any species sufficiently advanced to travel interstellar distances would be able to hide or masquerade with ease. That Boeing 737 that just flew by may be a surveillance craft.
Perhaps they are so far away they will never notice us and vice versa.
Perhaps they existed a million years ago and died out.
Perhaps they will exist a million years from now.
It is really impossible to know for sure.
The Drake Equation suggests that there is sentient life out there. The Fermi Paradox casts doubt. Play around with the calculation form at the second link and see what you think.

I posted this a few days ago - from what I've learned over the years on the study of eco systems, planets, galaxies, and life.
It's truly hard to even speculate this. There are certain building blocks needed to create and sustain life. This theory is only true is evolution exsist. It's not just the certain building blocks that create life like - water / atmosphere. But you have to take in the grasp that gravity, rotional speed of the planet, distance from a near by star for heat to create weather or a steam effect for water all also play a major part. Then at that the enviroment has to be non-hostile, no collisions from space objects, no volcanic erruptions, stable weather system.
In our galaxies it's probably not very probable that life exsist elsewhere. However, with the vastness of space and the countless number of galaxies there could be a slight chance this all reoccured perfect like it did for Earth. I seriously doubt we will ever find out though, considering that galaxies are moving away from each other and travel or communication to them at this point is none the less inconcievable. Travel at the speed of light is also considered impossible, much less traveling faster then the speed of light. Plus it would only take a few billion or so years to travel all the milky way searching for life.
Life on a simpler level though may have occured at some point in time elsewhere or may occur some millions of years down the road elsewhere in newly forming galaxies. I just wouldn't plan on hanging out with aliens anytime soon!

i do. what are the chances that out of over a trillion planets we are the only successful planet to have life. the odds are very slim that we are the only ones but i believe that we are still quite a far way from finding others or others finding us.

There are always possibilities. The Universe is too big for there not to be life on other planets.

Yes, although not at this time, in this part of the galaxy, as we have been searching, but found nothing.

Right now, I think we don't know. We don't have any real evidence of extra-terrestial aliens.
I suspect there are other life forms in other galaxies or in our own, but we haven't found them yet. And, maybe we never will.

Yes, the universe is so vast there must be life out there somewhere, no matter how small the chances might be. But it's not visiting us.

Aliens ~ If they are jinns, I would say, yes.
Also, I have seen UFO (s) and other paranormal sightings in Pensacola, Florida as well as many other people, and I have my story as well as their stories links on my blog.

Yes, there is proof. I have seen weird things in the sky that are not planes or birds. Also some people have actually recorded it on tape.

The mathematical probability is fairly high.
Though none have, could, or ever will reach earth.
The distances involved are too great.
