In UK, CD's are known as 'Gilts' (Government Bonds).

The gilt-Treasury and gilt-Bund spreads reached a peak of around 8 percentage points in 1976 (using quarterly data). Since then, however, the size of this yield premium on gilts has declined steadily; in February 2000, the redemption yield on the 5¾% Treasury Stock 2009 (the current benchmark ten-year gilt) fell below the comparable German Bund yield.

For today's situation you will have to do your own research (there are about a dozen different types of Gilt = see fist link below)
