Hi,
There's only one thing that stops anybody from doing anything, and that's fear.
People are not afraid of selling, they're afraid of being rejected, of someone not liking what they are selling, and saying no.
Sadly we become conditioned to believe that what someone else thinks of us is so important, we fear saying or doing anything just in case someone else might not like us.
Success in any business, direct selling, network marketing or anything else, is about confronting those fears, realising that this is your life, your one and only opportunity to live on your terms, and taking a calculated risk regardless of what someone might say or think.
Do Richard Branson, Bill Gates or Donald Trump care what others think?
To the person who suggests "of course they don't care what others think because they're rich" we reply "No, they are rich because they don't care what others think".
That is not to say you need to be thick skinned and insensitive to succeed - but it does say you need "posture" for success. Posture means you are confident in yourself and you take action to achieve your goal regardless of the opinions of others.
If your goal is legitimate and your actions are honest, success will be yours.
So no, people don't fear selling, they fear what others think.
And finally... thank God almighty for people who sell.
Without them, nothing would happen in business. Without sales there would be no company income to pay all the other workers, there would be no income to pay taxes to run the public service, no economy, no unemployemt relief... it all comes from sales.
Yes, thank God almighty for those who like to sell. More power to them.
Warmly,
Slav

I am also in direct sales and I have found FEAR to be the reason. Most people disguise it as something else I have hear them all, not the sales type to everyone I knwo sells it where will I find customers. I agree with you people would be amazed at what they could do. Now I'm not saying direct sales is for everyone that is what makes the world go around we can't all be in the same profession or have the same interest.
Before I started my own business I was never interested in direct sales for me it was easier to work for someone else. Life changes and my children are what inspired me to give it a try. It has changed my life and I'm so glad I gave it a try.

I truely believe that people are afraid of rejection. They don't want to feel like they are "selling" someone, you know what I mean?
I too am in direct sales. I sell Home Interiors & Gifts. Even though this company has been around for 50 years this year, I chose to go into it two years ago because they now feature the Better Homes and Gardens Collection. Yes, from the magazine. That being said, it is not that I didn't like Home Interiors before that, it is just that, I was looking for something new, but also something I knew was going to work for me. I am a hiar stylist by trade, but my hands gave out just after 7 years in the biz, so I had to find something that allowed me to make great $$ but I don't like having set hours and a boss. That is why I rented my own station when I did hair.
The Better Homes and Gardens collection gives me an edge to talk to people. It is really fabulous.
I am really close to making Director and have decided this will be my career.
That is another thing. Many people don't want to actually work. They just want to get a discount.

Nothing stops me! I'm in direct sales also. I'm a consultant for Purse Party. I love it! I agree I do not understand why everyone is not in direct sales. You hardly ever work and make great money! I love it!
In reference to the comment above. I agree. The people that make the most money are those who get in when the company starts. Purse Party was founded in 2004 so those that get in now will be the ones making the real money in 10 years! That's why I chose the company! And I love purses and jewelry!

The biggest successes in direct sales are those who start as soon as the company opens and that is why most people do not want to get involved in things like Tupperware, Mary Kay, Avon, Quickstar, etc.
I am in a direct sales business myself, suzanne(tm), however I am a charter consultant, one of the first 1000 to sign up, so I have nothing but opportunity to grow, because there will never be a consultant above me, I am it. I will reap the rewards of that.

I work at home with a direct markeing company and I will never do mlm again. I don't have to stock product and this gives me more time for my family. I think people in general are scared of taking a chance of any sort starting to work from home but that is fine because you actually only want to find people like you. Jennifer

I just don't like sales. I am not a good salesperson and I am not disciplined enough to work for myself. This is my reason.
