D&D is a fantasy game based on your imagination. Seeing as you have access to a computer, go to this web site "Wizards of the West Coast". They have a great slection of D&D items that can be purchased.
D&D is best played with about 3-4 other players and 1 person acting as DM (Dungeon Master). The DM will get the adventure rolling and make sure that the players get involved in some type of quest: get rid of a dragon, find some sort of lost treasure, clean out some type of occupied territory, fight bandits, etc. It's then up to the players to accomplish this quest.
Throughout the adventure, the players will face monsters, tricks, traps, puzzles that must be solved or eliminated. The DM will award experience points for actions completed & issue treasure (gold, magical items/weapons) to players deserving of such.
The 1st thing to do is to find other people that like to play. Create your character and then start playing. You will need @ the bare minimum - a Dungeon Master's Handbook, a Player's Handbook, and a Monster Manual. You will also need dice (4-sided, 6-sided, 8-sided, 10-sided, 12-sided & 20-sided), pencils, paper (for mapping), player character sheets and time to play.

Well, the board game is a good place to start for those new to the game. Dungeons and Dragons is mainly a Book based RPG.
As a DungeonMaster, I would advise looking for a nearby gaming store. most bigger sities have at least one. Here in Ft. Wayne, IN we have 5 or 6. I would also suggest asking at your local library; they might know where to direct you, or they might even hold a game of their own on location.
without knowing your city of origin, that is the best I can help you. I wish you luck in your area.

For the board game, try a (board) gaming store. Not only will you find the game, but you might find people to play with as well.
The computer game is a MMORPG like World of Warcraft. You buy the software, then create a character and play online with other people. There is a monthly fee to keeep playing though. Go to a place that sells video games to get a copy.
The original Dugeons and Dragons (D&D or DnD) is a pencil-and-paper role playing game. Improve acting with rules really. To find people who might wnat to try that, look to your local board game store.
