I think it's an awesome idear! We don't use plastic bags anymore in our household. We are also going to have Earth Hour once a week - inspired by the Aussies and their self-imposed blackout.
If North Americans stopped using plastic shopping bags, we'd save 12 MILLION barrels of oil every year. Or is it billion? It's a lot, anyway.
Plastic bags are a bloody menace to Mother Earth. I think they should be banned globally.

Wait till the first big rainstorm when your heavy groceries rip straight through the bottom of some crappy paper bag while you are walking through the parking lot to your car. Then you will see why plastic bags were invented.
I guess I will be among those not shopping in that Manitoba town.

Except if you recycle plastic bags, it is much MUCH more energy and resource efficient than paper bags.

Yep. We have a plas-tax and it encourages people to use cloth re usable bags. Except I keep forgetting mine. I'm a bad kid.
