Liberalism is not a curse or disease (your question is predisposed to bias, hence a poor one.) It's simply a way of thinking a society should behave. I think liberalism and conservatism are each transient in some fashion. Personal experience, tragedy, learning, changing world situations, etc. can change a person's views over time.
My personal opinion is liberalism is the idea of normalizing all things to the middle when it comes to fiscal policy and entitlements. Bring the rich down and the poor up. Seems to make some people feel good. I don't care for it because it rewards under-achievers and penalizes over-achievers.

A democracy needs at least two parties to be a democracy. It is really odd that Republicans hate the Democrats because about half of the voting public are Democrats. Do Republicans want to rule all alone and really bee responsible for the decline of the USA.

Psychoanalyzing the Right
It seems many Republicans are furious that a study was done with a $1.2 million federal research grant, but they would have been irked in any case that three university professors have published a report finding that right-wing conservatives need a shrink.
The psychoanalysis of the G.O.P. would not have gotten much attention if it had not been given headline play in the right-wing journal National Review. One of the magazine’s writers, the outraged Byron York, gave the study by the scholarly trio professors at Stanford, the University of California and the University of Maryland some publicity under the headline: Conservatives are Crazy.
The professors’ conclusions:
Political conservatism is significantly associated with mental rigidity and closed-mindedness, including
(a) increased dogmatism and intolerance of ambiguity;
(b) decreased cognitive complexity;
(c) decreased openness to experience;
(d) uncertainty avoidance;
(e) personal needs for order and structure; and
(f) needs for cognitive closure.
If that's not enough, they went on by citing conservatives’ low self-esteem; fear, anger, and aggression; pessimism, disgust and contempt.
