get the rights to make a movie out of a book i just read today? How do i contact the author and ask her to let me make her book into a movie?

Find out if the author has an agent. Get in touch with the agent, and say you want to 'option' the book. This means you have exclusive rights to turn it into a movie but only for a limited period of time--like one year. Depending on how popular or obscure the book is will determine the price of the option. Of course, an author may expect you to be able to show past examples of your work (and especially agents).
