Embryonic stem cells are taken from killed human embryos, and if you believe (as I do) that human embryos are fully human, then killing them is definitely unethical.
Stem cells can also be obtained from placenta and cord blood, however... and adult stem cells can be harvested without killing the donor. Adult stem cells have been used with much more success than embryonic stem cells, in fact.
Just for the record: I also consider in-vitro fertilization to be unethical if it requires the creation and subsequent destruction of "extra" embryos.

Every year thousands upon thousands of frozen embryos are destroyed in labs all over the world. This is standard medical procedure when a couple no longer needs or wants the stored embryos. Whenever a couple is going through in-vitro fertilization - only a small fraction of the eggs fertilized are ever implanted. So - which is more "unethical" - disposing of these potential human lives as medical waste - or using them to prolong and enhance other lives? Stem cell research could make use of these potential "lives" as perhaps God intended. I can almost guarantee those who are so vocally against stem cell research would rapidly change their minds if they had a paralyzed child that might walk again with the use of stem cell therapy!

I don't think it is a question of ethics, I think it is a question of scientific validity, meaning, is it a line of research worth pursuing that has potentially positive outcomes.
In which case, yes, I think stem cell research regardless of the origin of the cells is research worth pursuing, as there are likely to be some fantastic life-enhancing outcomes from the research.
For those who are against embryonic stem cell research because it is from "dead babies," my only answer is the embryo is already dead. Isn't it better that these "dead babies" have something good come from their death?

these cells they want are not functioning babies...what they want is access to aborted tissue. They aren't going to kill babies to get them. I'm for it. To just throw them away is tragic, cruel, and medieval. There is no evidence that the cells they seek are thinking, feeling creatures. If I believed that, I would be against using them...and killing them humanely (since they were unwanted anyway)...but it seems to me that even if they are separate life, it would be better to give them some sort of existence than just tossing them in the trash. To not use them and let a million people suffer is using junk science.
Also, using adult stem cells is difficult and has not been accomplished as yet in a useful way. Stem cells from a fertilized egg can now actually be used to help people.

strong & undesirable. strong: man or woman Stem cellular & umbilical stem cellular learn. The learn on those kinds were benifical in helping those with spinal injuries, and parkinsens. undesirable: Fetus. cutting-edge learn have produced lower than the guy & umbilical, at a fee of existence. also, the secrete funds are very unethical. caution, the makes use of are specially being demanded for Human boom Hormone to augment activities performance. it is causing undesirable unethical clinical learn (fetus, man or woman, & umbilical) in spite of the acceptability of man or woman & umbilical stem cellular learn.

it depends on the way they are aquired, if it comes from the embilical of an already born child with proper consent then it is ethical, if it is taken from any form of human life which takes away from human life then it is unethical.

If there is a god and he gives us the technology to save millions of lives wouldn't it be wrong to not use it?
I think that if there is a god, that it would be lazy in his eyes to not use the knowledge he has allowed us to have.
Didn't people think TV was the devil at one time... and music...and dancing...and Elvis.... and ...... well you get the point
