if you have 3%, use it as .03 and multiply by the number to find the percent

36 x 3%=36 x .03
both equal1.08
this is the decimal way

if for fractions, 3/100 x 36 = 3x36 over 100 = 108 over 100

divide 108 by 100 = 1 and 2/25 (reduced from 1 and 8/100)
