Hotel California came out in 1976. However, that 75-85 timeframe is my favorite of all time.
I made "The White Tape" as a young adult/adult-to-be of songs from that time that were never that famous that I loved completely. I play them as my background music as karaoke host Your Uncle Dodge. Here's a short list:
Don Dixon - A Million Angels Sigh
Marc Jordan - This Independence
Joe Cocker - Fun Time
Sass Jordan - I'm Not
The Royal Court Of China - It's All Changed
Let's Active - Waters Part
Bernie Taupin - Citizen Jane
Axe - Rock & Roll Party In The Streets
Jon Astley - Jane's Getting Serious
Jon Butcher Axis - Life Takes A Life
Stabilizers - One Simple Thing
Point Blank - Nicole
Michael Stanley Band - Falling In Love Again
Van Stephenson - Modern Day Delilah
The Godfathers - Birth, School, Work, Death
The Clocks - She Looks A Lot Like You
Frank Marino - Strange Dreams
Greg Guidry - Goin' Down
Amy Holland - How Do I Survive?
Moon Martin - Rolene
Red Rider/Tom Cochrane - White Hot
Donnie Iris - Ah! Leah!
The Rainmakers - Big Fat Blonde
Martin Briley - The Salt In My Tears

Love the Eagles and all their music. I see you mentioned Elton John, most of his stuff was great as well.
I think you're better off listening to this stuff than what's out there today. At least the lyrics made sense back then (well, for the most part anyway).

Their OK. Actually any thing by The Eagles is good. I like Duran Duran, Pat Benatar, Billy Idol, to many to name. The 80's rocked.
