I have a D-Link wireless router. I can't connect to my connection anymore through my laptop. I can use the connection connected to my desktop computer (through ethernet cable). I can connect to my connection wirelessly with my PSP. So the only problem is the laptop not being able to connect. I have been able to connect it to hotel networks and networks at friends houses. The laptop has been able to connect in the past, but I just can't get it to work now.

I have also reset the modem 56546445 times and all that jaz.

Any help is appreciated.

The answer above is correct - an address with a 169 is a loop back connection, and if there is absolutely no connection that is the address you will get. Normally, as mentioned above, the address should start (LinkSYS and DLink is the same) with a 192 address. Do the release and renew of the adapter and ensure you get the correct address - once you get that it should work (once all of your other security settings & firewalls are properly configured). You should disable your firewall when trying this - better for troubleshooting the problem.

If the laptop can see the connection but won't connect to it it should be an encryption key code that is missing.

WPA- has a passphrase that must be input

WEP has a really long number called an encryption Key

If the wired units work and the laptop sees the connection it is about the only thing left.

Win XP

Go to start/control panel(classic view!) double LH click on Network Connections- Insure your LAN is disabled, then disable your WLAN, then Enable yopur WLAN and see what happens- If you get a 169.254XXXXX Ip addy you didn't connect, If you get a 192.168.X.X you did.

If the ip address on your laptop is 169.xx.xx.xx. That's your problem in order for it to to be connected to your router the ip better be 192.168.yy.xx.
Start, Run, type cmd, Enter, ipconfig /all.
Verify your ip address and the address of your default gateway. IPaddress and the gateway should have exactly the same first three sets of numbers (192.168.yy.xx, yy= the third set of digits in your Router IP address.
This not being true.
type ipconfig /release, Enter
Type ipconfig /renew, Enter
Type ipconfig /all. Verify that the numbers are correct.
This still not being true
Type ipconfig /release
Verify that the ip address has reset (00.00.00.00)
Type Exit
Restart

Good Luck

Ahh, I had the same problem. My internet would keep signing me off and I had the exact same thing.

The best thing you can do is get rid of it and get into a DIRECT connection off the internet you want.
