when i was growing up in the 70's we churned our own butter..we had a family of 12 people and i guess my parents liked to do everything the natural way....plus we didn't have money

yep, a lot of people in small rural communities do this and some sell at farmers markets. Its not a big sales product for dairy butter, but Apple butters and other fruit butters are big sellers usually.

Ummm....what exactly do you mean by "churn your own butter"...is this a euphamism for something else?

Part of me has always been curious, mostly because I want to know how it tastes.

The only other place I've seen it is at historical reinactment places - like Sutter's Mill in California. Wouldn't let me try it :(

Some people still do, i do. I like knowing that if civillzation falls apart, I can survive. Ps. im also a pretty good cooper.

I accidentally whipped whipping cream waaaayyy too long and it almost turned to butter.

It tasted pretty good, but the texture was weird.
