~For a starting date, 1838 is as good a date as any. Millard Fillmore established the first concentration camps in Tennessee and Alabama that year (although the term "concentration camp" was not coined until the British came up with it in 1899 in South Africa with the Boers) and the genocide of indigenous peoples continued throughout the 19th century, culminating with the massacre at Wounded Knee in 1890. The subjugation of the natives continued thereafter, but with the countless millions already slaughtered, the North American Holocaust was effectively complete with the death of Red Cloud. The Soviet Holocaust under Stalin was of much briefer duration, as was the Cultural Revolution in China and the Khmer Rouge "cleansing" in Cambodia. As to the Jewish, bear in mind that that Jews represented a minority of those who died in the Nazi camps (maybe 35% of the total), although, with the exceptiion of Jasenovac (nearly 100% Serb), the extermination camps were reserved to the Jews almost exclusively (about 80% of the body count). The "Final Solution" was a short-lived program from 1941 (Chelmno opened in December '41) until possibly as late as early '45 at Auschwitz II (Birkenau) although the executions at the other 5 "Jewish" camps and at Jasenovac were terminated in '43 and '44. All in all, the genocide of the Jews pales by comparison with other genocide campaigns in history and, although the numbers are only rough estimates at best, the US still leads the charge with the Bureau of Indian Affairs policy of making "good Indians" by millions.

This is not a question with an easy answer.

Concentration and labor camps (1933–1945)

One of the first was Dachau, which opened in March 1933. These early camps were meant to hold, torture, or kill only political prisoners, such as Communists and Social Democrats. Eventually, the Nazis imprisoned Jews, Gypsies, Jehovah's Witnesses, homosexuals, critical journalists, and other undesirables.

There are no specific dates that cover what happened under the Nazi regime. You'll need to do a massive amount of research.

High volume state-sponsored genocide began after the Wansee Conference in Jan. 1942 when the "Final Solution to the Jewish Question' was initiated. It ended in Nov. 1944 coinciding with Himmler's orders to destroy the crematoria at Auswitz as the Red Army approached from the East.

Sure the Jews were persecuted before 1942 with the Nuremburg Laws, Night of the Broken Glass, Einzatgruppen (sp) executions in conquered territories and many were killed, but the event we come to know as the holocaust (high-volume state-sponsored genocide) was from Spring of '42 to the Fall of '44.

There are no specific dates that I've come across... starting with the rise of the Nazis in 1933 until the end of the war in 1945 the Jews were targeted and put into camps, but the actual extermination didn't start until 1941 or even 1942 by some sources.

make sure you know exactly what your teacher is asking for... they probably mentioned it in class and that's what they are looking for. Its kinda subjective.
