This is a short vacation on earth. Why then to torture ourselves so much?So much suffering of who we are, of what we have done or not, or by whom we are accepted or not. I see so much suffering. About our age, our bodies, about they way we think.

Something is wrong here. Is what? Education? Society? What then?

I think society has changed so much in the last 40 years. It seems that we are bombarded by commercials and media telling us that we should have certain things, be a certain way and look a particular way to be happy and successful. Of course, I don't think this is true at all. Happiness and a good life don't come from what we possess or what we look like, but from who we are and what we do with our time here. I think it's especially hard on younger people who think they have to live up to having a perfect body and the fashionable toys to fit in. We should all be more focused on the kind of people we are&what we accomplish that is meaningful to us as individuals. Sometimes we are our worst critics, comparing ourselves to others and what they have instead of focusing on living a happy, meaningful fulfilled life in our own way and by our own standards we set for ourselves.

You are thinking too deeply and incorrectly. There is a short "vacation" on Earth, so we decide to fill it with as much pleasure as we can. We don't torture ourselves, we seek out what our body wants: food, sex, and power. We've started to become more and more sophistacted and intellignet, we've have been on Earth as a working society for maybe 3000 years. Eventually we will evolve to accustom ourselves to this changing world.

I think everyone sort of knows that everything we care about is a bit trivial, but it is so hard to actual accept that and apply it to this life. At least that's how I feel. I know that I shouldn't stress over some things that I do, but I still do.

Society as a whole values the things you mentioned - beauty, money, age, etc. So, it is easy for us to succomb to those values- whether we want to or not.

Alot of people live for today. And all of those things that you mention are what are important for the now. We don't want to think that we will be gone someday.

I think the same as u!!!!!!!!!
I do think we are our worst enemies, because we are always critisising ourselves for our actions, what we think, and torment ourselves with our thoughts about ourselves. We make ourselves suffer by making ourselves thimk tht we are not doing things right that we can't do some things because what other people think about what we think, so don't worry u are the only ne that thinks like that, I feel like that.
My advice to u is that u live ur life, don't worry about what other people think about ur actions, because only people thst don't think about their actions and take risks have a goo time by doing things and people never critizise them!!!!!!

For a sec, it sounded like you were reciting a poem. It's probably about competition when we compare ourselves to the people who we feel have more power and better lives than us and confidence which sinks as we compete indirectly.
